Abstract
Headspace-gas chromatography was applied to the determination of residual amounts of vinyl acetate in water-based adhesives for cigarettes. N,N-dimethyl formamide was used as matrix modifier and n-propanol was used as internal standard. The sample obtained from the head-spece flask was injected into and separated on HP-VOC column, and detected with FID. The linearity range for vinyl acetate was between 0.51-50 mg·L-1, with detection limit (3S/N) of 0.82 μg·g-1. The method was used for determination of residual vinyl acetate in various water-based adhesives for cigarettes, giving values of recovery found by standard addition method in the range of 96.2%-101% and RSD′s (n=6) less than 3%.
